Etiquette Questions

Family considerations
If your fiance did not ask your parents for your hand, then they should be the first to know about your engagement. If your parents live nearby and know your fiance, it is best for the two of you to tell them in person.
Ideas for introducing parents
If the two sets of parents haven't met before you announce your engagement, you'll want to arrange a meeting at the earliest opportunity. Since it's customary for the bride's parents to host an engagement party, this can be a perfect time to introduce them to the groom's parents.
Including children
The remarriage of a parent is a difficult thing for most children to accept. They should not only be told about the wedding, but they should also be actively involved in the planning, shopping, and decision making.
Rules for the reception
Not only is etiquette always changing, but customs may vary from one region or ethnic group to the next. For this reason, it's difficult to pin down exact rules regarding a reception.
Second marriages
There are a number of alternatives and choices for a second wedding. Your decisions may be determined by you and your fiance's age, whether children are involved, and if this is a second marriage for both of you, or just one of you.
