SPCA Offers Incentives to Get Dog License

SPCA Cincinnati is offering incentives to Hamilton County dog owners for getting a license.

The SPCA is holding Pet ID Days this weekend, December 6 and 7,  from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the SPCA Cincinnati Humane Center on Conrey Road in Sharonville.  When you purchase a dog license you will also receive a FREE Iams Pet Wellness starter kit. It includes coupons worth more than $20 and a free Iams nutrition sample and pet care guide.

SPCA Cincinnati also will be offering free rabies shot for your dog with the purchase of a Hamilton County Dog license. There will also be discounted microchip implantations available. Microchipping and registration for one cat or dog is $15, a savings of around $50. With a small microchip (about the size of a grain of rice) implanted under the skin, a pet can be traced back to its owner if found and turned in to an animal shelter, including SPCA Cincinnati.

Rabies shots are also free for cats, but a small donation of choice to SPCA Cincinnati will be accepted as cats do not require a license. These offers are ONLY good at SPCA Cincinnati’s Sharonville location.

Every dog over the age of three months must have a license by January 31 of every year according to a new Ohio law. Dog owners who fail to purchase a license for their dog by January 31, 2009 are subject to a $105 fine.

The small metal tag worn on a dog’s collar has a unique number. If a deputy warden or other person finds a lost dog with a license, a simple phone call to 513-946-DOGS will provide the dog owner’s name, address and telephone number.
