A 62-year-old man is hospitalized after his attempts to gain an extra burst of speed on his sled went badly wrong - when a rocket-pack he had strapped to his back exploded.
Officials said the man apparently filled the backpack with petrol and gunpowder and then, wearing a motorcycle helmet, got on the plastic sled.
Reports say he then asked another person to light a wick and then began to sled down a hill, at which point the device exploded.
The man is in a stable condition with second-degree burns to his face and the right side of his body, as well as possible eye damage.
Police said that they had not filed charges against the man, who they said was known for doing 'outrageous' things at sledding events.
